Job Title: YReads Program Tutor

Job Description: The YReads! Program is an exciting literacy/mentoring initiative for kindergarten through fifth‑grade students, taking place at Pinellas County Schools throughout St. Petersburg, FL. The program uses curriculum‑based literacy instruction to help struggling readers in areas of phonetics, sight word recognition, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As a tutor, you will provide assistance and support to the program coordinator during YReads!

hours to ensure that outlined program goals and procedures are being achieved.

• Assists in student supervision, helps maintain order, and positively reinforces "good choices" when appropriate.
• Assists students to and from the restroom.
• Assists coordinator in picking up and dropping off students around the school.
• Oversees and ensures that mandatory procedures are followed when parents or guardians pick up students.
• Maintains necessary paperwork: testing, volunteer and student sign‑in and sign‑out logs.
• Required to teach basic reading skills using lessons developed by the YREADS Coordinator using all curricula.
• Attends required abuse risk management training.
• Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adheres to job‑specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

• Must be 16 years or older.
• Desire or interest in learning about literacy intervention.
• Experience working with children in an educational environment.
• Compassion and empathy for struggling readers.
• Tutoring experience strongly preferred.

Pay & Perks: $15/hour. Part‑time/after school hours, 4 days per week. Approximately 15 hours per week. Excellent benefits, including retirement savings and childcare before/after school upon meeting eligibility requirements. Free individual YMCA membership for employee and discount for family.

Requirements: Level 2 background clearance and 10‑panel drug screen required.

Salary: $15.00 per hour
