The successful candidate is responsible for providing the project, financial and risk management necessary to ensure that Duke Energy Environmental Remediation Liabilities (ERL) are in compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations, accounting standards and practices and corporate environmental policies and procedures. The core business focus will largely be on legacy projects in the state of Florida related to the assessment and cleanup of soil, sediment, and/or groundwater impacted by petroleum products and/or hazardous substances that were released historically.

The projects are driven by complex State and Federal regulatory programs. Position will also support substation assessments and closures; due diligence for real estate acquisitions and divestitures;
Brownfields site identification and tracking; and, provide subject matter expert programmatic regulatory/technical review and consultation to peers and other business units.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of assigned ERL projects including but not limited to: selection of contractors and procurement coordination; project budgeting and financial management; project regulatory strategic planning; project environmental compliance; remediation site assessment and corrective action technical strategy and approach; project documentation and internal reporting.
  • Determine and manage ERL project budgets on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Determine Environmental Reserve finances for assigned projects on a quarterly basis.
  • Engage Subject Matter Experts and Environmental and Safety Field Support as needed to address specific project needs or circumstances.
  • Assist with procurement and other project financial approvals within Delegation of Authority.
  • Provide environmental reports for both regulatory compliance and internal customers.
  • Ensure work unit goals are achieved.
  • Enhance company reputation through effective planning, organizing, communicating, and scheduling of environmental work activities.
  • Accomplish business objectives by supporting routine and special project teams.
  • Strive to continually develop and improve job-related, technical knowledge and skills to ensure that department expectations are met.
Basic/Required Qualifications

Associate EHS Consultant
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Health & Safety or other related degree
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, high school/GED and 4 years related work experience
EHS Consultant
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Health & Safety or other related degree
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience
Desired Qualifications
  • 4 years of experience working on environmental assessment and remediation projects.
  • The ideal candidate would have direct experience working on projects subject to enforcement according to Florida Department of Environmental Protection Chapter 62-780 Contaminated Site Cleanup Criteria.
  • Firm working knowledge of Florida contaminated site, waste management, and Underground Storage Tank (UST) Programs is a plus.
  • Successfully completed hazardous waste operations and emergency response 40-hour training with 8-hour refreshers in good standing per the Occupational Health and Safety Act (see title 29 subpart 1910 section 120…
