Role SummaryAs a Project Manager - Structural at SSR, you will blend hands‑on structural engineering with client‑facing leadership, spending roughly half your time managing projects and business development and half your time on technical design and delivery. You will lead structural design for low‑to mid‑rise buildings across healthcare, commercial, education, government/municipal, and industrial markets, as well as structural assessment and repair/retrofit projects.
You will be accountable for achieving Total Project Success—meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives—while serving as a trusted structural advisor and helping grow SSR's presence in key markets.
In this role, you will lead structural building projects while serving as a hands‑on technical engineer and client‑facing project manager.
- Serve as the structural project manager for low‑to mid‑rise building projects in healthcare, commercial, education, government/municipal, and industrial markets, balancing technical delivery with client‑facing responsibilities.
- Plan and execute the structural scope for new buildings, additions, and renovations—including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and specialty structures—to meet performance, constructability, and budget goals.
- Lead and review structural analysis and design in accordance with current codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC), ensuring safe, efficient, and resilient solutions.
- Direct the production and coordination of structural drawings, models, and specifications in Revit/BIM and other design tools in collaboration with architects and multi‑discipline engineering teams.
- Manage structural assessment projects for existing buildings and structures, including on‑site investigations, condition assessments, load ratings, and preparation of clear repair, retrofit, and strengthening recommendations.
- Develop technical reports, calculations, and narratives that communicate complex structural concepts and recommendations in a way that clients and partners can easily understand.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients—leading regular check‑ins, managing expectations, and cultivating long‑term relationships that generate repeat and referral work.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities, participating in go/no‑go decisions, assisting with capture planning, and collaborating with Client Relationship Managers and Operations Directors.
- Lead or contribute to the development of scopes, fees, proposals, and schedules for structural projects; negotiate and process additional services when scope changes occur.
- Plan, monitor, and adjust project budgets, staffing plans, and schedules to meet revenue, utilization, and profitability targets while maintaining quality and client satisfaction.
- Coordinate the work of internal disciplines and external subconsultants; facilitate effective communication among architects, engineers, owners, and contractors.
- Provide construction phase services, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, performing site observations, and resolving field issues to protect design intent.
