Our FCC Environmental - Pinellas County Waste to Energy facility (WTE) is currently seeking a Control Room Operator for monitoring and operations of WTE Power Plant, Turbine Generator and Air Pollution Control (APC) systems.
Responsibilities- Control all aspects of the operation of Waste to Energy (WTE) power plant systems including combustion, steam generation, condensate, feed water, turbine/generator, circulating water, service water, fuel handling, ash handling, electrical, fire protection, air pollution control and various computer networks.
- Review, monitor and directly or indirectly through dispatch of field operators manipulate WTE boiler combustion and boiler steam generation systems from central control room to optimize operations of multiple WTE boiler units.
- Start up and Shut down equipment, boilers and turbine generator systems as required for forced and scheduled maintenance and operations activities.
- As the primary operator responsible for compliance with boiler and facility environmental compliance parameters, maintain close oversight of all operations parameters within applicable permit limits.
- Coordinate equipment shutdown and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) as directed by Shift Supervisor. Support facility safety performance through administration support with facility safety permit systems such as LOTO, Hotwork, Confined Space and job safety briefings.
- Using knowledge and experience with WTE combustion systems, take immediate and appropriate action to address boiler and power plant upset conditions. Ability to multi-task and take direct actions to manipulate equipment through plant Distributed Control System (DCS) while simultaneously dispatching and directing field operators for supporting actions.
- Initiate and conduct periodic surveillance tests on operating safety checks and tests on operating conditions.
- Monitor operation of systems and components including pumps, motors, valves, fans, dampers, grates, augers, conveyors, dust collections, etc.
- Monitors operability of fire protection systems, emergency backup equipment, electrical supply equipment and instrumentation associated with station systems and components.
- Conduct equipment performance rounds and monitor performance trends. Dispatch field operations to address equipment performance adjustments. Communicate with and report out to Shift Supervisor when operating data indicates equipment malfunctions or trends which require operator intervention.
- Understand and train other Operators on the operating principles of the power facility’s systems, components and steam cycles.
- Detect and respond to changing conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety, environmental compliance, and efficiency.
- Coordinate, direct, and train Assistant Control Room Operator, Auxiliary Operator, Utility Operator and other plant personnel, as required.
- Perform inspections during outages.
- As needed, perform physical duties associated with maintaining boilers and various equipment within the plant.
- Maintain positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co‑workers and management.
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
- ASME QRO provisional certification preferred. In absence of certification, candidate must be able to sit for the examination within 1 year of start date.
- Three years working in a power plant environment as an Assistant Plant/Control Room Operator (APO/ACRO) or comparable position; or 5 years related experience or training in power plant environment
- Knowledge and understanding of the operation of a steam generating power plant
