Reports to: Director of Production

Type of Employment: Independent Contractor

FLSA Status: Exempt from Overtime

Position Summary:

American Stage seeks a Master Electrician/Board Op for the upcoming 25-26 season . An ideal candidate is energetic and motivated to manage the electrical needs for our upcoming season. This position would be responsible for the shop prep, load-in, setup, execution, maintenance, and run of the electrical needs for each production.

Responsibilities And Duties:
  • Work with the Lighting Designer to review the light plot and confirm equipment availability and ensure to remain within the rental budget.
  • Prepare the lighting plot for hang and focus and ensure its actualization
  • Establish circuiting and cabling layout plan
  • Analyzes the light plot and coordinate with the Technical Director for the location and set up of all lighting equipment.
  • Maintain all necessary lighting paperwork
  • Work with the Director of Production, Technical Director, and Stage Management to efficiently load in/strike the show
  • Supervise all Electrics Calls during Load-In
  • Participate in all Focus and Programming Calls with the Lighting Designer, ALD and Programmer
  • Communicate and coordinate crew needs with Director of Production
  • Consult with the Lighting Designer and Director of Production on equipment needs.
  • Organize and maintain the rental lighting inventory
  • Secure and safe rigging of all lighting instrumentation
  • Wiring of any practicals or scenic pieces that include lighting units
  • Identify any training and needs of associated crew
  • Manage the safety of the company on stage in relation to lighting elements
  • Be sure performance space is left clean and in orderly condition.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient with and able to set up, program in the ETC family of consoles.
  • Familiar with and able to install, program, and troubleshoot both conventional and intelligent fixtures.
  • Ability to Hang, Cable, Program, Focus, and maintain approx. 175-200 fixtures per show.
  • Must be comfortable and able to work safely at various heights from Genie lifts, ladders, suspension grid, and scaffolding
  • In depth understanding of networking and signal flow
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Understating of best theatrical practices in regards to hanging, circuiting, cable management, proper focus, changing of lamps, and standard accessories for stage lighting equipment
  • Creative problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Team oriented and collaborative attitude
  • Excellent Communication
  • Experience with QLab programming
  • Knowledge of Clear Comm equipment
Details of the Production:
  • Onsite work per Show: 3 week min from LX Hang to Opening
    • Timeline of Production:
      • Light Plot Due: 21 days prior to Focus
      • LX Hang, Cable, Patch Lighting: 7 days prior to Focus (1st Day of 1st week)
      • Designer Run: 3 days prior to Focus
      • Focus Call: 3 days prior to Technical Rehearsal (1st Day of 2nd Week)
      • Programming: 2 days prior to Technical Rehearsal
      • Technical Rehearsal: 4 days Thur-Sun 8 days prior to Opening
      • Final Dress: 3 days prior to Opening (1st Day of 3rd Week)
      • 2 Previews: 2 &1 day prior to Opening
      • Opening Day is Friday of the 3rd week of contract. (Final Day of 3rd Week)
Code of Conduct:
  • As an independent contractor paid by American Stage Theatre Company, you will be expected to adhere to our organization's code of conduct. A copy of this will be sent for your review and signature, prior to commencement of employment.
Compensation:

Compensation is BOE in the range of $2,500-$3,500 on a per show contract. As an independent contractor, this position is exempt from any and all benefits that we provide full and part time staff.
