Viirtue, a technology company and leader in the UCaaS/MSP space, is seeking a Platform Engineering Director with deep expertise in VoIP, systems, and network engineering to lead our platform engineering team. As a hands‑on leader, you will play a pivotal role in designing, maintaining, and optimizing our VoIP platforms and underlying systems. A background in SRE is highly desired.

The ideal candidate has a 'ready to jump in' mindset, is an excellent communicator, and has extensive experience managing a small team of senior engineers. They enjoy working in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment and embrace a culture of perpetual learning. This position will report directly to the CTO and can be remote for the right player.

Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and mentor a team of network and platform engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence.
  • Develop, evolve and refine processes that support ownership, accountability, and business continuity.
  • Organize project‑based work streams and action items in collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Collaboratively document system architecture, playbooks, processes, etc.
  • Serve as a technical expert for the team, offering hands‑on guidance in system architecture, networking, and VoIP related technologies.
  • Lead incident response efforts to diagnose and resolve critical platform issues effectively.
Platform Engineering & Operations
  • Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and reliable VoIP systems and network platforms.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to improve operational efficiency and platform performance.
  • Collaborate with CTO and other key stakeholders to define platform engineering priorities aligned with business objectives.
  • Own system administration tasks, including Linux‑based server management and troubleshooting.
Qualifications General Skills

  • Demonstrated success in leading and mentoring technical teams.
  • Ability to delegate effectively and balance strategic initiatives with day‑to‑day hands‑on work.
  • Experience in handling customer‑facing escalations calmly and constructively.
  • Demonstrated success in deploying and integrating solutions as part of a comprehensive product launch.
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Critical analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex VoIP and network issues.
  • Experience securing VoIP systems against threats like toll fraud, DoS attacks, and other threats.
Technical Skills VoIP
  • Experience in designing, deploying, and administering Class 4/5 technologies such as Netsapiens (preferred), Free SWITCH, FreePBX, and OpenSIPS.
  • In‑depth knowledge of VoIP protocols (e.g., SIP, RTP).
  • Familiarity with Session Border Controllers (SBCs), media gateways, and soft switches.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting call flows, QoS issues, and network‑related VoIP problems.
  • Experience with high‑availability systems, load balancers, and failover configurations.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, and Hyper‑V.
  • Experience with telemetry tools for monitoring system health and performance.
Networking Expertise
  • Expertise in networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Experience with routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs for VoIP systems.
  • Familiarity with Cisco or Juniper routers and QoS/VLAN configuration.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud architectures supporting VoIP operations.
Databases
  • MySQL, Maria

    DB, and Postgre

    SQL for managing call logs, configurations, and analytics.
  • Knowledge of database optimization for high‑availability VoIP environments.
Programming / Scripting
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or related for automating routine tasks and system maintenance.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Puppet.
  • Solid working knowledge of Git for version control.
