Biological Scientist I position at the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute's Marine Mammal Section in St. Petersburg, Florida. The role involves responding to marine mammal stranding calls, verifying mortalities, recovering carcasses, conducting necropsies on manatees, and assisting with rescue and transport operations. This is a temporary OPS position requiring fieldwork across coastal Florida counties from Escambia to Manatee.
Key qualifications:- 4 years professional experience in a biological field or laboratory program, or bachelor's degree in biological sciences
- Marine mammal stranding-response experience preferred
- Experience conducting marine mammal necropsies and collecting samples and data
- Ability to safely operate and trailer boats less than 30 feet
- Ability to swim sufficiently to save oneself in an emergency and lift at least 50 lbs
- Valid Florida Driver's License
