. Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of Game Stop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide best‑in‑class guest service: greet promptly, respond to questions quickly, assist with video gaming needs, inform about promotions, recommend additional items, apply selling behaviors, thank guests, prioritize guests over tasks.
  • Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
  • Process guest purchases/return transactions accurately using the POS computer system, provide receipts, and ensure top‑notch guest service.
  • Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone; answer calls promptly, courteously and professionally; when appropriate, Escalate issues to the Store Manager.
  • Promote Game Stop’s guest benefits such as title reservations, trade‑in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
  • Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training associates; observe performance, provide feedback, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with onboarding, training, and compliance requirements before opening or closing a shift.
  • Schedule staff, supervise staffing levels, approve payroll, manage time‑off, and verify pay.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, merchandise, fixtures, and equipment in proper order.
  • Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily; protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention practices.
  • Support sales, profit, and shrink goals; conduct inventory counts, restock merchandise, reconcile daily totals, deposit cash, and handle merchandise discrepancies.
  • Handle defectives/recalls and stock pulls accurately.
  • Ensure associate and guest safety, identify hazards, and report injuries per company guidelines.
  • Maintain store records and files; supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders.
  • Adhere to Game Stop policies, procedures, and ethics code; follow opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications
  • Valid proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or accredited bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
  • At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
  • At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
  • Video game knowledge preferred.
