What You’ll Do

As a Special Education Teacher at SACS, you will play a critical role in supporting student success. You will collaborate with colleagues, families, and administrators to ensure that all students with disabilities receive the services and support necessary to achieve their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with and for Students:
    • Plan and deliver differentiated, standards-aligned instruction in small-group settings.
    • Provide individualized and inclusive support across core content areas in an inclusion setting using a push-in model.
    • Collaborate with grade-level teams to modify lessons, assignments, and assessments to meet student needs.
    • Support, plan and/or co-lead Service-Learning projects.
    • Co-teach Social-Emotional learning curriculum for the Lower School once a week.
    • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that include measurable, data-driven goals aligned with student needs.
    • Collect and analyze data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and benchmarks.
    • Write quantitative progress reports at the end of each progress reporting period.
    • Design and implement student-driven Transition Planning Forms (TPFs) for students aged 13 and older.
    • Implement common academic and behavioral procedures to ensure a structure, respectful, and achievement-oriented environment conducive to student outcomes.
    • Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system.
    • Analyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessments.
    • If qualified, conduct academic testing, write comprehensive evaluation reports, and present findings at IEP eligibility meetings.
  • Working with and for Families:
    • Facilitate ongoing communication with families to provide updates on student progress and address concerns.
    • Attend IEP meetings and help ensure parent input and collaboration in developing plans for student growth.
    • Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences.
  • Working with and for Colleagues:
    • Consult and collaborate with general education teachers, guiding IEP implementation and accommodations.
    • Share best practices for teaching diverse learners with colleagues to ensure inclusive classroom practices.
    • Actively participate in weekly professional development sessions and grade-level meetings.
    • Facilitate IEP meetings, including annual reviews and progress updates, in partnership with the Team Chairs and the Managing Director of Student Services.
    • Maintain clear and consistent communication with school leadership regarding student needs and team progress.
    • Provide guidance, support, and direction to paraprofessionals working with special education students and special education liaisons (if you possess a license).
Who You Are

  • Have at least 1-3 years of experience teaching Special Education and a strong understanding of culturally responsive education.
