Special Education Teachers are responsible for teaching students in the substantially separate Language Based Learning Disabilities program. The Language based Learning Disabilities classroom is for students with a specific learning disability that affects language, (Reading/Writing/Speaking/Listening). The candidate will work in consultation with special and general education teams. The Special Education Teacher will effectively manage a continuous caseload, including transitioning students in/out of programs, participating in professional learning communities with grade level cohorts, providing parent communication, developing behavioral interventions, and working with paraprofessional staff to ensure the consistent provision of a high quality program for students.
Role Responsibilities:- Teaches reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, by using the district curriculum and other appropriate learning activities reflecting a deep understanding of state frameworks and use of the workshop model.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Provides structure in the classroom by promoting a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Prepares teaching materials and related reports including ongoing data analyses for the purpose of improving instruction, implementing lesson plans, and documenting student progress.
- Participates in in-service programs to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
- Instructs and provides assistance for student learning, individually or in groups, designing lessons that both present and reinforce learning concepts.
- Works under the general supervision of the building principal and other building administrators, manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement.
