Job SummaryThe Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT II) is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory director and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Under general supervision, the MLT II carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures.
Works independently in an efficient and organized manner to assure accurate results and records. The work requires a professional level of knowledge to read and interpret test results used by providers in diagnosing and treating diseases.

Essential FunctionsAs outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested the same way as patient samples.
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable performance levels.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct them or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Qualifications- Education:
Associate's Degree in Laboratory Sciences or Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required. - Licenses and Credentials:
None specified. - Experience:
Laboratory experience 2-3 years required; cannot replace a degree. - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, and repair, and analytic techniques.
- Ability to work independently, evaluate situations and act appropriately.
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Attention to detail, adherence to written protocols, and effective communication with supervisors when issues arise.
- Team collaboration.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Professional and effective interaction with physicians, hospital personnel, employees, and patients.
