Assembly Operator (Small Parts);
Photonics
Full‑time, non‑exempt role located in Salem, NH, reporting to the Director of Operations. This position requires working with very fine parts using microscopes and tweezers, building components and sub‑assemblies for high‑power optical products. You will follow detailed procedures and instructions while operating machinery, often sitting or standing at a workstation.
This role is performed in a temperature‑ and humidity‑controlled clean‑room environment. Additional requirements include wearing a gown, bouffant, gloves, booties, and safety glasses. Our commitment to a FOD‑free environment also requires no cosmetics, hair containment, and other clean‑room protocols.
Essential Functions- Complete detailed and precise mechanical assembly of semiconductor assemblies requiring dexterity in handling small tools and parts.
- Mount, align, and perform in‑process testing to ensure final assemblies meet prescribed specifications.
- Create electrical interconnects using gold wire bonding tools.
- Read and work from assembly drawings, verbal instructions, and engineering sketches.
- Use precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance with dimensional and electrical specifications and tolerances.
- Work for prolonged periods under a stereoscopic zoom microscope.
- Wear complete fab attire during an entire shift and meet all safety and clean‑room requirements, including hand hygiene, personal item removal, gowning area preparation, order of gowning, shoe covers, hair covers, face masks, coveralls/gowns, gloves, additional garments, final inspection, and proper protocol maintenance.
- Attention to detail and above‑average hand‑eye coordination.
- Good manual dexterity and ability to work with small components.
- Ability to use microscopes, screwdrivers, tweezers, and other miscellaneous tools.
- Knowledgeable about handling and working with various adhesives and epoxies.
- Work independently under general supervision.
- Good communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- SEMICONDUCTOR EXPERIENCE and J‑STD‑001 certification preferred.
- Maintain a high level of quality awareness by adhering to policies and procedures so that parts meet quality expectations.
- Identify, multi‑task, and resolve multiple priority issues quickly.
- Approach tasks in a detail‑oriented manner.
- Work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions.
