Job Description

This is a full‑time, permanent, in‑office position. The role is multifaceted and includes:

  • Evaluate incoming physical evidence and associated paperwork to ensure compliance with laboratory policies and evidence packaging guidelines.
  • Independently evaluate submitted evidence and requests to determine if the requested service is within the forensic laboratory’s scope of testing; if not, repository to remedy or return to the submitting agency.
  • Represent OSP FSD professionally and treat each customer with respect, even in high‑stress situations.
  • Maintain security and protect evidence according to laboratory procedures, ensuring chain of custody is maintained for hazardous or contaminated evidence.
  • Assist law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and the public; provide internal support for laboratory staff.
  • Work with little to no supervision, exercising independent judgment regarding course of action and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Handle sensitive issues that require confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Collaborate with other OSP personnel to ensure laboratory goals are met.
Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements
  • Three years of secretarial or administrative support experience that includes coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis.
  • OR an associate degree in general office occupations and two years of secretarial or administrative support experience.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

If selected, official transcripts from all institutions of higher education used in awarding your degree must be provided.

  • Experience managing competing priorities, multitasking, using sound judgment, and following through on task completion.
  • Experience anticipating customer needs and providing prompt solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records in accordance with accreditation standards.
  • Capacity to maintain a high level of professionalism in a high‑stress environment while working autonomously.
  • Effective communication skills with team members, management, and internal and external customers within the criminal‑justice community, while maintaining confidentiality.
Special Qualifications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to provide credible sworn testimony in a criminal or civil proceeding arising from the performance of duties.
  • Must provide appropriate samples for inclusion into the Confidential Staff DNA Identification Index.
  • Must pass a urine analysis drug screen.
  • Must pass all applicable background, credit, and criminal history checks.
