Overview
We are seeking a full-time Aviation Technical Writer 2 in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly technical publications, user guides and installation and maintenance manuals.
Essential Functions- Research and collect data to write pilots’ guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents
- Create electronic documents and desktop publishing tools, adhering to Garmin's internal writing style standards
- Communicate with the Design Engineers regarding product specifications/development
- Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions and features of specific aviation products
- Provide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures
- Work in a team environment within the Technical Publications area to constantly improve the archival, storage and documentation process
- Edit copy for content organization, style, voice, audience and format consistency
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or another related technical writing field AND a minimum of 2 years of technical writing experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Experience writing user guides for software products and user interfaces, ideally within the aviation industry
- Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures
- Proficient in desktop publishing tools understanding the fundamentals of lean writing and the need for writing style standards
- Basic understanding S1000D documentation standards
- Must be detail-oriented, possess the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, and is able to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- Avionics and/or electronics/technical background
- Pilot License or A&P and IA Certificate
- The ability to read and understand electrical schematics would be a nice to have
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Experience (InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator) & AutoCAD
- Experience and/or education in computer graphics creation relevant to Garmin’s business needs
