Position Title: Part Time Background Support Specialist

The Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care is seeking a permanent Part‑Time Background Support Specialist. The role works 20 hours per week in the office at our headquarters in Salem, Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑12:00 pm with some flexibility. The primary purpose is to support the Central Background Registry (C ) by processing criminal history and child protective service checks essential to child‑care licensing, while incorporating DELC equity policies and practices.

Responsibilities

The primary duties include:

  • Processing completion of criminal history and child protective service checks for child‑care licensing applicants.
  • Ensuring background‑check processes align with DELC equity policies and practices.
  • Collaborating with team members to manage competing deadlines while maintaining ongoing tasks.
What We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of general clerical experience involving keyboarding, word processing, or document generation; or an associate degree in any field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Attributes:

  • Data entry and analysis experience.
  • Excellent customer‑service skills and experience communicating with diverse populations in person and by phone.
  • Team‑player with strong collaboration, information‑sharing, and contribution to team success.
  • Ability to manage and adapt to competing deadlines while maintaining ongoing tasks.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.

Additional Information

The position requires both a Child Protective Services and Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) check, including FBI fingerprinting, and enrollment in the Central Background Registry. Both checks must be completed before starting; results can take 1–3 weeks. Adverse background data will result in immediate disqualification.
