If you have no formal work history, submit references (name, email, phone) for at least two volunteer supervisors (e.g., food share, church, sports, babysitting, clubs, school).

• AVID Tutors are key to the success of the AVID program. Tutors receive training in specific teaching methodologies and materials to work with AVID students in study groups and individually.
• AVID tutorials take place in small, subject‑specific groups. Tutors facilitate collaborative sessions using Socratic questioning and peer learning techniques.

• Excellent role model as a motivated, organized, successful college student who believes AVID students will succeed.
• Supportive manner with secondary students and understanding of the delicate position.
• Advocate for students while being responsible to the teacher.

• Conduct in‑person tutorial sessions emphasizing collaborative learning and student teaching of peers.
• Determine focused concepts from worksheets, notes, and discussions.
• Encourage students to shoulder responsibility for active learning while guiding them.
• Assist students in any subject area, familiar with textbooks, materials, and AVID resources.
• Provide constructive feedback online or in person on student work.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection.
• Maintain the tone and atmosphere of the AVID classroom.
• Assist the AVID coordinator as requested (e.g., contacting teachers, planning field trips, contacting parents).
• Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher about student progress and concerns.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students.
