Physics Instructor – Chemeketa Community College

This is a part‑time faculty pool for assignments available during the academic year. Applications are accepted throughout the year and reviewed based on department needs. Your application status will be updated throughout the review process. If your application is still in progress, it has not yet been reviewed by the hiring department. Essential Functions
  • Teach classes as assigned, following current approved course outlines.
  • Meet during scheduled class times.
  • Prepare and develop materials for assigned classes/labs according to program expectations.
  • Provide students with class syllabi.
  • Deliver course content using appropriate methods for student needs and program curriculum.
Course Management & Student Success
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learner growth.
  • Create a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity.
  • Maintain student records of grades and attendance in accordance with college procedures.
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide feedback in a timely manner.
  • Communicate available college resources to students.
Instructional Program Responsibilities
  • Maintain timely communication with the college program and supervisor.
  • Stay current on program goals, processes, and outcomes.
  • Participate in program assessment and college accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate degree from an accredited institution with 30 graduate credit hours in physics or a closely related field. OR
  • Has met requirements for a graduate degree with 30 graduate credit hours in physics or related field and demonstrates effective teaching skills.
  • The division dean will make the final determination regarding applicability of a particular degree to teaching a specific course listed above.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching lab‑based physics courses.
  • Education courses or training focused on teaching science.
  • Experience utilizing learning management systems to supply class resources and grades.
Terms of Employment
  • Requires flexible work schedule, including evenings or weekends.
  • Position belongs to the bargaining unit and begins at Step 1.
  • All positions require work onsite as requested.
  • Requires provision of official transcripts upon hire.
  • Must maintain Oregon, Washington, or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
  • Recently hired faculty must participate in a new faculty orientation program.
  • Successful applicants must pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit, and full background checks.
  • Providing false information will result in rejection of an application, employment offer, or dismissal.
