Overview

The Job in a Nutshell: This role requires an outgoing personality and passion for sharing nutrition knowledge and inspiring people to act and achieve their health goals. You’ll wear many hats while working in a fast-paced retail setting, conducting classes, private coaching sessions, community outreach, and retail operations (e.g., customer service, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.). As the store’s nutrition professional, you will act as an educational resource providing science-based nutrition education/training to the store Crew, our customers, and the community.

This position is a front-line contributor to the Natural Grocers mission and plays an integral role in helping Natural Grocers improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through providing free nutrition education and helping people understand why their food choices matter, you will play an important role in Natural Grocers' commitment to creating a sustainable, just, regenerative food system where humans, animals, and the earth can thrive.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

Act as the nutrition education resource for customers, Crew, and community.

Provide customer service in the vitamin aisles, assisting with product purchases and education.

Perform retail operations such as maintaining customer literature files, stocking and facing products, cleaning, and merchandising.

Provide nutrition education through in-store classes, outreach programs, and regular training to Crew; maintain the Crew Wellness Board; motivate and encourage Crew participation in nutrition challenges; respond to questions and review summaries.

Conduct private one-on-one health coaching sessions.

Build community relationships with practitioner partners, guest presenters, and event partners.

Seek outreach opportunities to provide nutrition education and build brand awareness.

Maintain continued education requirements by reading research and completing CE assignments.

Assist management with organizing and executing company-wide events.

Print materials for classes, outreach, and coaching sessions; manage orders for nutrition education supplies.

Train Crew on promoting NHC services, in-store events, and promotions.

Attend monthly meetings (webinars, regional and sales calls).

Represent the store as an event ambassador during guest presenter classes.

All employees are expected to be “hands-on” and flexible to ensure the company's success.

Qualifications

Recipe for Success:

A degree or certification in nutrition or a related field (e.g., dietetics, biology, biochemistry, naturopathy).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Excellent public speaking skills and confidence in front of groups.

Ability to engage customers and promote events, services, and sales.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

Self-motivated, team-oriented, and receptive to feedback.

Passionate about providing nutrition education to employees, customers, and the community.

Comfortable performing retail operations such as stocking and cleaning.

Maintaining Nutrition Knowledge: If continuing education is required for your degree/certification, ensure those requirements are fulfilled. If not, maintain 16 CE hours (or two CE units) annually.
