Your first year is a probationary period that includes the Basic Corrections Course (BCC), classroom training, online courses, health and fitness classes, force‑skills training, and a Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP).
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- 21 years of age or older
- U.S. citizen
- Meet DPSST Physical Standards
- Strong reading comprehension, report writing, and retention skills
- Successfully complete an ODOC background investigation OAR 259‑008‑0015
- Pass NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas
- Good employee work history
- History of law‑abiding behavior (OAR 259‑008‑0070)
- Pass a psychological evaluation and risk assessment per HB 2936
- No evidence of substance abuse
- Proficient with computers
- Valid driver’s license
- Subject to drug testing for prohibited substances
- Good ratings
- Work as a team member
- Take control of situations effectively
- Support management goals cooperatively
- Make choices reflecting integrity
- Communicate and support staff
- Acceptable ratings
- Use correct grammar and understand written content

- Experience in a public safety occupation
You will work in a team setting to maintain order within the institution, enforce rules and regulations, and provide care to ensure safety and security. Key duties include cell checks, searches for contraband, dispute resolution, discipline enforcement, safety inspections, and reporting.

Step 4 – Complete the electronic Statement of Personal History (eSOPH). You have 14 days to submit all required references.
Step 5 – DOC will conduct a background investigation based on your eSOPH data.
Step 6 – If selected, you must pass a pre‑employment medical exam and psychological evaluation per DPSST requirements.
Requirements for EmploymentMust pass a CJIS fingerprint‑based background check and maintain eligibility. Certain felony convictions may disqualify the applicant. Full background investigations and motor‑vehicle checks are conducted.
