Application Architect
Pearson VUE – Enterprise Architect (Application Architecture). This role defines target‑state application architecture across the VUE product ecosystem, drives modernization, and aligns initiatives with long‑term strategy. It involves cloud‑native transformation, microservices redesign, and reference architecture governance.
Key Responsibilities- Define and maintain the target‑state application architecture for Pearson VUE platforms and products.
- Design and evolve enterprise‑wide reference architectures, technology patterns, and best practices.
- Lead modernization initiatives, including cloud‑native transformation, microservices redesign, event‑driven architecture, and platform simplification.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies to enhance scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Establish architectural standards, guidelines, and decision frameworks for consistency across product and platform teams.
- Drive the enterprise Tech Radar process.
- Mentor architects and engineers, share best practices, and support technical growth.
- Guide engineering and product teams in practical implementation of reference architectures and modernization patterns.
- Provide architectural oversight during solution design, development, integration, and deployment.
- Ensure solutions meet standards for scalability, resiliency, observability, and security.
- Identify legacy pain points and recommend modernization pathways.
- Define architectural milestones and roadmaps.
- Collaborate with platform and product architects, engineering leads, and stakeholders.
- Represent Enterprise Architecture in cross‑functional forums and strategic technology discussions.
- Lead architectural governance processes to ensure compliance with enterprise standards.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Extensive experience designing and implementing software architectures in enterprise environments.
- Proven track record of delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
- Hands‑on expertise in cloud platforms, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and infrastructure automation.
- Strong background in code review, technical mentoring, and cross‑team collaboration.
Preferred
- Experience designing reference architectures for enterprise‑wide adoption.
- Architecture certifications (TOGAF, AWS/Azure Architect, SAFe Architect).
- Experience with high‑availability, high‑volume enterprise systems (such as scheduling, content delivery, or secure assessments).
- Familiarity with AI/ML, Agentic
AI, and modern data platforms. - Experience establishing technology standards, governance, and tech strategy at scale.
- Software Architecture:
Create and maintain fundamental software structures. - Systems Development Life Cycle:
Manage projects from concept through deployment and maintenance. - Code Review:
Evaluate and improve code quality through peer review. - Cloud Computing & Kubernetes:
Design and support cloud‑native solutions. - Information Security:
Protect systems and data through secure design. - Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
Automate infrastructure management. - Technical Acumen:
Analyze complex technical data to inform decisions. - Problem Solving:
Identify challenges and deliver practical solutions. - Collaboration:
Work across teams to achieve shared goals. - Adaptability:
Respond to change and shifting priorities. - Innovation:
Apply technology strategy to develop differentiated solutions. - Learning to Learn:
Continuously develop new skills.
- Travel:
Occasional travel may be required for customer engagements or internal meetings. - Reports to:
Vice President of Product Management & Enterprise Architecture.
Salary range: $125,000 – $150,000 per annum. The position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program. Benefit details are available upon request.
