Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD). State of Oregon. Position is an on‑call, substitute LPN for the 2025‑2026 school year, working during the academic year with no set schedule, 24‑hour service Sunday‑Thursday.
Our Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Substitute works with the supervising nurse to carry out prescribed orders and meet students’ medical needs. The LPN is a member of the student health services team, caring for the physical and emotional well‑being of approximately 130 deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students and an adult transition program. Nursing tasks include medical screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow‑up care, and maintaining 24‑hour infirmary care.
ASL is essential for communication with staff, students, and parents.
- Respond to all medical emergencies of students.
- Provide direct care for both verbal and non‑verbal students.
- Prepare and dispense prescribed medications; perform prescribed treatments.
- Complete documentation, maintain medical records, and handle paperwork (field trips, screenings, filing, etc.).
- Participate in formulation, development, implementation, and evaluation of health care plans for students.
- Receive shift reports, count narcotics, survey supplies, restock as needed, perform receptionist duties (answer phone, sign in students, transport, appointments, staff meetings).
- Assist with housekeeping duties, including cleaning examination areas and dorm coverage as needed.
- Valid Oregon Practical Nurse (LPN) license at time of appointment.
- Valid Oregon Driver’s license.
- First‑aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
- Experience in pediatric nursing.
- Ability to provide emotional support to students.

- Expected sign language competency:
Level 2 on ASLP‑1 within 6 months of employment.
- Knowledge of pediatric nursing.
- Current CPR/1st aid certification.
