Forest Officer – Tillamook (Forestry Department)
Position SummaryThe Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) seeks a dedicated Forest Officer to join our Fire Protection Program. You will protect 16 million acres of forest through quick and efficient wildfire suppression, fire prevention, education, and land stewardship.
Base PaySalary Range: $4,824.00 – $7,365.00 per month. Position Type:
Employee. Initial Posting Date: 01/05/2026. Final date to receive applications: 04/30/2026.
- Four seasons in wildland fire suppression.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and one season of wildland fire suppression.
- Valid driver’s license; age 18+.
- Pass the Physical Fitness Work Capacity Test at the arduous level.
- Obtain Class B Warden certification within the trial service period.
- Forest management knowledge and related regulations.
- Fire management, suppression, and safety expertise.
- Proficiency with forestry tools (chainsaws, portable pumps, fire engines, GPS, mapping software).
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Perform forest fire suppression activities.
- Execute pre-suppression readiness activities.
- Conduct fire prevention and education initiatives.
- Assist with grounds and facility maintenance.
- Engage in forest tasks such as slash burning, pre-commercial thinning, road brushing, etc.
- Ensure your applicant profile’s work history is up to date.
