FSQA Manager – Freeze Dry and Pet Food Manufacturing
Location:
Salem, OR (Full-time)
The FSQA Manager will be responsible for maintaining the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems at the Salem, OR site. Key responsibilities include promoting customer satisfaction, ensuring compliance with FDA and USDA regulations as well as FSMA and GSFI Standards, and managing facilities quality, food safety, AAFCO, GMPs, SOPs, SSOPs, HACCP/HARPC, and customer complaint resolution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manages all activities related to food safety, product quality, microbiological performance criteria, finished products, HACCP/HARPC systems, government regulatory compliance (including FDA, APHIS, USDA), internal and external inspection criteria, and customer complaint investigation and response.
- Responsible for development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the quality and food safety system, including FSMA compliance and food safety/quality plans.
- Ensures integrity of the food safety, quality, and regulatory system is always maintained.
- Reviews paperwork for accuracy and verification.
- Works with management and required personnel in formulating, establishing, and enforcing corporate policies, procedures, and objectives related to Quality and Food Safety systems.
- Review and comprehend technical and regulatory publications; stay current with industry developments.
- Performs audits of manufacturing and warehouse locations and food defense.
- Administers hold and release policies.
- Ensures successful completion of all food safety and quality regulatory certification audits.
- Maintains and audits effective HACCP/HARPC, GMP, and GFSI programs.
- Maintains an effective sanitation program.
- Inspects raw materials/COAs and finished product documentation to ensure they meet specified standards and are compliant with company standards.
- Refines plant measurement techniques, micro laboratory testing procedures, record keeping, and data analysis.
- Develops and trains personnel on all food safety, quality, and sanitation procedures.
- Maintains certification and paperwork for exports, FDA, USDA, APHIS, GFIS and state regulatory bodies.
- Supports R&D team with new/improved product processes ensuring compliance with AAFCO, FDA, APHIS, USDA, etc.
- Knowledgeable of all AAFCO requirements for pet food.
- Other special projects and duties as assigned by the General Manager and Director of FSQAS.
- Manages the quality staff and day-to-day activities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience writing and managing food safety plans.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from a four-year college/university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in USDA Meat Processing, Ready-to-eat or high-risk process industry preferred.
- SQF Practitioner or GFSI experience a plus.
- PCQI certified or willing to become certified within 1 year of employment.
