Overview
Cook position with the Oregon Youth Authority (ROGUE VALLEY YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY), Grants Pass, OR. The role involves providing nutritious, balanced meals for youth, food preparation, ensuring dietary requirements are met, and maintaining high standards of food safety. Job Description OREGON YOUTH AUTHORITY – Cook, Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility, Grants Pass, OR. The Cook prepares meals according to OYA menus and recipes, supervises and trains youth in custody in meal preparation and serving, maintains records for the Federal Food Program, and manages kitchen resources.
Responsibilities- Works independently while cooking, preparing and coordinating meals from OYA menus and recipes.
- Supervises and trains youth in custody in the preparation and serving of meals.
- Maintains required records of meals served and quantities prepared for the Federal Food Program.
- OYA facilities are tobacco free environments.
- Shift work in a 24-hour, 7-day operation, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
- Adhere to site dress code.
- Frequent exposure to verbal abuse and interaction with youth in a corrections setting.
- Uses commercial cooking equipment and computer/USDA software for menu development and nutrient analysis.
- One year of experience as a cook in a food service facility OR
- Possession of a Certificate of Completion in culinary arts and/or Foods and Hospitality Service from a certified community college or technical school.
- Food handler's card required; must obtain the county food handler's card within 30 days of hire.
- Experience working in a team setting and communicating information.
- Experience using problem-solving techniques.
- Experience mentoring or coaching others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
