Your role with usAs a senior maintenance engineer (plumber) at Salem Health, you’ll handle complex repairs, installations, and routine maintenance of the hospital’s water, drainage, and heating systems, ensuring uninterrupted service and safety. You’ll collaborate with clinical staff and facilities teams to respond quickly to emergencies, complete scheduled tasks, and deliver courteous, detail‑oriented service—all while applying strong technical know‑how and clear communication. This role demands a seasoned plumber who can troubleshoot effectively, follow regulatory standards, and keep the facility running smoothly.
Whatyou'll do
- Performs intricate repairs, installations, and modifications on the hospital’s water, drainage, medical‑gas, and HVAC systems—including interfacing with mechanical and electrical components—to keep all systems running at peak performance and in full compliance with health‑care regulations and building codes.
- Reacts swiftly to plumbing emergencies such as leaks, burst pipes, or gas outages, troubleshooting the root cause and implementing effective fixes to minimize downtime and safeguard patient care continuity.
- Enters accurate, comprehensive documentation of all maintenance and operational activities into the electronic maintenance management system, supporting data‑driven decision‑making and regulatory audits.
- Provides timely updates to clinical staff, facilities personnel, and leadership on work orders, project status, and system performance, ensuring everyone is informed and aligned.
- Monitors inventory levels of pipes, fittings, valves, and specialty plumbing parts; procures materials as needed and optimizes resource allocation to keep maintenance operations running smoothly.
- Assists in training and development of junior staff members, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance team performance and capabilities.
- Participates in departmental planning and decision‑making, contributing plumbing expertise to cross‑functional teams that drive process improvements, innovation, and best‑practice adoption.
- Maintains a clean, organized work area, adheres to OSHA, local plumbing codes, and hospital safety protocols, and ensures every task meets regulatory standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold a current Journeyman Plumber license issued by the Oregon Building Codes Division.
- Minimum of eight years of building and equipment maintenance or equivalent experience required.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license and be eligible for authorization according to Salem Health’s fleet safety program policy within four months of hire, maintaining it thereafter.
