The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) manages Oregon's state buildings, ensuring safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environments for employees and the public.
DAS is looking for a highly skilled HVAC Manager to lead our Operations and Maintenance HVAC Program. This is a hands-on, leadership-heavy role where technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and team management come together every day.
As our HVAC Manager, you will :- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of journey-level HVAC professionals. Promote a safe, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
- Manage installation, maintenance, and repair of complex HVAC systems, including chillers (up to 567 tons), steam boilers (up to 500 HP), fan systems, process cooling units, refrigeration systems, ductwork, and DDC / pneumatic controls.
- Respond to 24 / 7 HVAC emergencies, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely solutions to ensure a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environment for state employees and the public.
- Develop long- and short-range plans for HVAC operations, conduct facility assessments, recommend system improvements, and oversee capital improvement and construction projects.
- Monitor energy use, evaluate system performance, and implement strategies to achieve sustainability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness goals.
- Serve as the HVAC program subject matter expert, ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
- Three years of lead work, foreman work, or supervision; OR
- One year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position AND completion of an accredited vocational-training or construction-training program related to the class concept; OR
- One year of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Limited Maintenance Electrical License
- Limited Energy Technician - Class A or B
- EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification
- Strong leadership and supervisory experience in HVAC operations.
- Expertise in installation, maintenance, and repair of complex HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Experience with energy management, building automation systems, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
- Commitment to safety, equity, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
- Solid understanding of building maintenance and construction procedures and materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively with irate or difficult tenants and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Hands-on training in pneumatic and electronic heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
