Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
The Recycling Center Lead Maintenance Technician directs a team of technicians to perform repairs and maintenance on recycling equipment, compact heavy equipment, and light trucks to ensure safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include routine maintenance of hydraulic systems, recycling equipment (sorting screens, optical sorters, magnets, eddy currents), electrical systems, balers, conveyor systems, and compactors. The Lead Technician diagnoses complex repairs, coaches subordinate technicians, and schedules repair work to maintain timely and safe operations, reducing lost productivity within the Recycling Center.
PrincipalResponsibilities
- Maintain expert knowledge of mechanical diagnostics using diagnostic software and technical manuals.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on recycling equipment, compact heavy equipment, and light trucks, focusing on hydraulic systems, transmissions, engines, and electrical systems.
- Repair or replace parts as directed by a work order system and complete field service reports.
- Overhaul or replace machine components as needed.
- Communicate with supervisors and equipment operators to clarify problems and discuss preventive techniques.
- Independently troubleshoot and maintain complex electromechanical equipment.
- Record daily consumables report for hours, fuel, and oil usage in the Republic Services Dossier (Fleet Management Software) system.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to standard schedules.
- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing, electrical, HVAC, odor systems, and negative pressure systems as required.
- Install and set up new equipment and coordinate with vendors regarding maintenance schedules.
- Read, troubleshoot, and program simple PLC instructions to enhance plant monitoring and performance.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
- Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems.
- Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.
- PLC programming experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of equipment maintenance and repair experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
