Group Life Coordinator 2 Pool - Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility

The Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is seeking qualified candidates to join our team as Group Life Coordinator 2 (GLC2) at Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility. In this crucial role, you will play a vital part in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both the youth in our care and our dedicated staff. Rogue Valley is a 24/7 youth correctional institution housing individuals aged 12 to 24, with the majority of the population falling within the 18‑24 age range.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous interactive supervision of youth and ensure strict adherence to all policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Oversee daily activities, build strong rapport with youth, and address and redirect behavior.
  • Model and foster pro‑social skills, and support the pursuit of youth treatment goals.
  • Coaching, confronting, and correcting youth behavior as necessary.
  • Observing, documenting youth behavior, and participation in programs.
  • Monitoring youth for potential health and safety risks, including suicide prevention.
  • Conduct security inspections and conduct searches of youth living units and youth.
  • Administer medication under indirect supervision of medical staff and maintain contact with medical staff to ensure appropriate medical care.
Additional Details
  • Multiple positions: this recruitment will establish a list of qualified candidates for current and future vacancies – permanent, full‑time, part‑time, limited duration, and temporary positions.
  • Under‑fill: the goal is to fill the position at a GLC2 level, but candidates meeting minimum qualifications for a GLC1 may be considered until a GLC2 candidate is found; under‑fill training will not exceed one year.
  • The salary range listed is the non‑PERS participating rate; a participating PERS member will receive a 6 % increase. The range increases annually on anniversary dates until the maximum is reached.

Working Conditions
  • OYA facilities are tobacco‑free environments.
  • Shift work in a 24‑hour, 7‑day operation, with night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Adhere to the dress code of the specific work site.
  • Frequent exposure to verbal abuse, threats, and impulsive, rebellious, assaultive youth.
  • Use of reasonable force may be required during emergencies.
  • Physical standards: vision, hearing, dexterity, push/pull, running, and jogging.
  • Transport youth as requested; operate state vehicles if in a security position.
Benefits
  • Life insurance policy of $2,500 paid by SEIU Local 503 for active members.
  • Up to $200,000 additional life insurance available (up to $100,000 member life, $40,000 spouse, $10,000 child).

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
    Plus: Six months full‑time experience observing, evaluating, developing, and monitoring human behavior and performance; or a certificate/associate degree in behavioral science, education, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Under‑fill GLC1: high school diploma or GED.
  • 21 years or older with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT) demonstrating hand dexterity, lifting up to 165 lb, mobility, endurance, vision, and hearing requirements.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
