Overview
Child Protective Services Worker (SSS1), Bilingual English & Spanish Required – A role with the Oregon Department of Human Services focused on protecting children and supporting families through trauma‑informed, antiracist practices.
Salary and PayBase pay range:
USD 4,833.00 – 7,407.00 per month.
Employee status. The position may include a 5% differential for passing required bilingual testing.
Initial posting: 12/31/2025. The announcement will remain open until filled. Screening is conducted every two weeks. Candidates are encouraged to apply promptly.
Responsibilities- Protect children’s safety and support families by engaging with parents and caregivers using trauma‑informed, antiracist approaches.
- Navigate the needs of the child and family while balancing legal requirements.
- Conduct assessments and fact‑finding interviews related to child safety, risk of abuse, neglect, or harm.
- Analyze information to determine appropriate child placement, considering each family’s unique circumstances.
- Create reports, case notes, testify in court, and communicate with diverse populations in office, community, or legal settings.
- Adhere to ORS 419B.021 educational requirements for child protective investigations and custody determinations.
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (confirmation via language proficiency testing).
- Associate degree with either:
- Two years of human services–related experience; or
- One year of human services experience plus related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field; or
- Bachelor’s degree unrelated to human services with:
- One year of human services experience or
- Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.
- Degree must be completed; experience alone does not meet the minimum qualifications.
- Experience engaging trauma‑impacted families from diverse backgrounds in person‑centered assessments in both English and Spanish.
- Experience working with community partners and organizations to support diverse families.
- Capacity to contribute to psychological safety, well‑being, and belonging in a team environment.
- Experience managing dynamic workflow in a high‑volume setting.
- Work conducted in offices, participants’ homes, and community sites.
- Occasional travel for meetings, trainings, and case activities.
- Professional work week with fluctuating hours; occasional compensated overtime including evenings and weekends.
- Rotating on‑call schedule with evenings and weekends.
- Exposure to sensitive trauma, abuse, substance use, and crisis situations; requires a trauma‑informed approach.
- Criminal history and background check required for finalists; adverse history may lead to disqualification.
- No visa sponsorship. US Department of Homeland Security I‑9 and E‑Verify required within three days of hire.
- Finalists must be cleared by the FBI CJIS through a fingerprint‑based criminal records check.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record remain mandatory.
