Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment.

• United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when no qualified citizens are available).
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent (implemented through an approved U.S. school).
• Full and unrestricted state license to practice medicine or surgery.
• Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification.
• Board eligibility/certification in urologic surgery preferred; special competency (training, experience or fellowship) in robotic surgery desired.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred experience/fellowship in urologic oncology.
• Physical ability to pass a physical examination.

• Serve as Staff Urologist under the Chief of Urology within the Salem VA Healthcare System.
• Maintain active licensure and credentials for full diagnostic and therapeutic privileges in Urology.
• Maintain knowledge of VA patient care processes across clinics, inpatient wards, and operating rooms.
• Evaluate patients, conduct histories and physicals, and develop follow‑up plans.
• Perform inpatient and ambulatory surgical procedures such as cystoscopies, TURP, prostatectomies (open, laparoscopic, robotic), nephrectomies, bladder resections, and prostate biopsies.
• Utilize flexible and rigid Storz instrumentation, endoscopic techniques, and surgical robotics as appropriate.
• Manage reusable medical equipment (RME) and ensure proper reprocessing.
• Write orders, progress notes, prescriptions (formulary), and interpret diagnostic studies.
• Refer complex cases to other VA medical centers.
• Co‑manage patients under attending supervision and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Supervise and teach residents, house staff, and other trainees.
• Participate in peer review, on‑call coverage, and, if applicable, joint appointments with the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
• Ensure practice aligns with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies, Psychiatric Guidelines, VISN standards, and HIPAA.
