This position primarily performs facility inspections to evaluate the design and operation of petroleum storage tank systems, documents findings, and works with owner/operators to remedy non-compliant conditions. This is a restricted position. Continued employment is contingent on the availability of grant or non-general funds.
It may require you to operate a state-owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
Working schedule is hybrid, including both in-office and telework. Candidates must be able to work from the assigned work location in Virginia.
Hiring Range: $57,733 to $82,042
Full Time or Part Time: FULL TIME
Job DescriptionThis position primarily performs facility inspections to evaluate the design and operation of petroleum storage tank systems, documents findings, and works with owner/operators to remedy non-compliant conditions.
ResponsibilitiesAssist tank owner/operators in complying with state laws and regulations governing storage tanks to promote improved environmental performance and reduce threats to human health and the environment from petroleum releases.
Qualifications- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing petroleum storage, UST/AST design technology, corrosion protection systems, leak detection methods, environmental science and engineering practices, chemistry, and basic hydrogeology.
- Knowledge in project management.
- Personal computer operations skills (including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Coursework or equivalent work experience in environmental sciences. Demonstrated excellent work ethic and independent work skills.
- Real passport may be required to inspect some facilities.
- Valid driver's license required for operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the primary environmental permitting agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It administers laws and regulations related to air quality, water quality, water supply, renewable energy, and land protection. With over 800 employees across six regional offices and the Central Office in Richmond, DEQ issues permits, conducts monitoring and inspections, and enforces the law.
