The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and non‑invasive mechanical ventilation.

• Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
• Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for and response to respiratory therapy.
• Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication, and chest physiotherapy.
• Assist with placement of artificial airways; initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
• Monitor patients for therapeutic response; notify provider and intervene as appropriate in case of unintended response.
• Assist with transportation of ventilator‑dependent patients.
• Respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school for Respiratory Therapy.
• Currently licensed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) in the state(s) of practice, complying with law and regulation.
• Transition from a CRT to a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the state(s) of practice within 12 months (CRT to RRT transition).
• Credentialed active member of the NBRC.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of employment.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of employment.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 6 months of employment.
• Preferred: 1+ years of experience in respiratory care.
