Machinist Apprenticeship

This is a Registered Apprenticeship program in partnership with Salina Area Technical College. Candidates must be enrolled at Salina Area Technical College.

The Geoprobe CNC Machinist works with a team to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine while placing a high priority on maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies. Successful candidates will be team players, mechanical with strong hands-on skills, committed to high-quality work, comfortable working with blueprints, strong in math, and team oriented.

As an apprentice, you will learn to:

• Plan and execute machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, machining parameters and tolerances
• Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Set-up mills and lathes.
• Load material feeders by lifting stock into position
• Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces, adhering to international standards
• Maintain safe operations. adhering to safety procedures and regulations
• Maintain equipment, completing preventive maintenance requirements
• Document actions, completing production and quality logs

• Enrolled and in good standing the Machine Tool Technology Program at Salina Area Technical College
• Must provide one reference that is an instructor at your high school or Salina Area Technical College
• Good at math with analytical abilities
• Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items and stand for long periods of time
• Hands-on with strong mechanical abilities
• Possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail
• Strong communication skills - relates well to all kinds of people
• Able to lift 50+ lbs
