Work Location: Saline, Michigan. This is a hybrid position, requiring at least three days in office per week with flexibility to work off‑site.
BASIC
PURPOSE:
Support guest engineer / design‑in work with Toyota and next‑generation electrical platform development for customer vehicle models. The engineer will lead harness routing design with temporary training at SEWS Detroit Technical Center before joining Toyota Technical Center.
- Creates, updates and manages 3D and 2D design files on Toyota's data management system throughout developmental phases.
- Works closely with internal departments at Sumitomo and Toyota to maintain communication required for project success.
- Serves as the lead routing engineer of Sumitomo for assigned projects, developing schedules, monitoring reporting engineers and open issues.
- Visits SEWS manufacturing plants to review harness quality and workability, explaining critical points to manufacturing members.
- Visits Toyota manufacturing plants under the client RE program to investigate quality/workability problems in vehicles and apply effective countermeasures.
- Applies design quality controls to achieve excellent design quality throughout harness development.
- Follows project development schedules to reach milestones timely.
- Understands Toyota standards & design procedures, and SEWS wire harness design standards, applying them throughout projects.
- Possesses deep understanding of harness routing design and familiarity with circuitry and component design to support R&D for next‑generation Toyota vehicles.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience preferably in wire harness or electrical system design, or at least general automotive design.
- Ability to oversee up to five engineers, checking their work, providing technical advice and mentorship.
- Knowledge of CAD design strongly desired; CATIA software preferred but not required.
- Primary location on‑site at Toyota Technical Center, York Township.
- Japanese bilingual capability desired but not required.
- Willingness to travel.
