Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a skilled trades coordinator. This position coordinates the safe operation of the skilled trades and applied technology laboratories, and supports the skilled trades programs with curriculum development, general instructor oversight, assessment and reporting. This position may be required to periodically work evenings and weekends to support division activities and courses.
Essential DutiesThe following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.
- Supports instruction by assisting with development, coordination, management and monitoring of skilled trades, contract training offerings and apprenticeship programs; develops and monitors assigned budgets; develops, implements and monitors skilled trades and applied technologies course safety procedures; assists with determining industry and community needs; develops curricula; participates in recruitment efforts to fill instructor vacancies; and helps prepare instructor schedules, while monitoring course enrollment
- Monitors college and vendor equipment and works with vendors and community partners to ensure equipment is appropriate, safe and functional; coordinates the procurement, inventory, delivery, removal, movement, and organization of materials to facilitate instruction and safety; ensures appropriate inventory and safe storage of equipment, consumables and supplies; and complies with college purchasing policies, including obtaining multiple bids when required
- Facilitates meetings, training programs and laboratories; monitors/observes course instruction; models and trains instructors to use instructional technologies and equipment; and assists with professional development for instructors and staff, including safety training to ensure instructor, student and visitor compliance with safety regulations
- Assists with continuous improvement efforts by attending/organizing partner meetings and implementing changes to ensure programs and courses are high quality and fulfill the needs of the community/partners
- Establishes and monitors safety in all program-related laboratories; works collaboratively with the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure currency of Safety Data Sheets, first aid kits and incident reporting procedures; and serves as a member of the Campus Safety Committee
- Works with associates to ensure appropriate instructor packets are created, delivered and returned; helps instructors set up college laboratories; and ensures classrooms and laboratory/shop areas are clean, clutter free and in compliance with safety requirements
- Substitutes, when qualified, in situations when an instructor is absent and another substitute cannot be secured
- Analyzes and compiles data, prepares accurate and timely reports, and maintains lists of businesses actively seeking employees in various content areas
- Contributes to the annual and five-year comprehensive department assessment process as per the college assessment plan
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Associate degree
- Three years of trades work experience (two additional years of related work/management experience can be substituted for the education requirement)
- Ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Strong technology, computer (including Microsoft Office and instructional technology software), human relations, confidentiality, and verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- Preference will be given to applicants with:
- A college degree;
- Experience teaching trades and/or working in multiple skilled trades fields such as construction, electrical, HVAC, manufacturing, plumbing, metal fabrication and welding
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), journeyman, master and/or other trades certifications
The days and hours of work for this position are Mon.
- Thurs., 10:00 a.m.
- 6:30 p.m. and Fri., 8:00 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m. (1 hour lunch), with evenings and weekends as needed.
