About the Role

We are seeking compassionate 1:1 Support Staff to provide direct supervision and emotional support for youth in out-of-home care throughout Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties. Your role will be to de-escalate conflicts, encourage positive behavior, and ensure a safe and supportive environment.

This is a contract-funded role under the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) requiring trauma-informed, individualized services for youth.

Key Responsibilities
  • ✔️ Supervise and support youth on a 1:1 basis
  • ✔️ Use crisis de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement
  • ✔️ Assist with daily activities, behavior coaching, and youth engagement
  • ✔️ Maintain daily progress notes and service documentation
  • ✔️ Ensure youth safety and comply with mandated reporting requirements
Requirements
  • 🔹 21+ years old with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • 🔹 High School Diploma/GED + 2 years experience OR Associate’s degree + 1 year in human services
  • 🔹 Background check and fingerprinting required
  • 🔹 Willingness to work flexible hours (some evenings/weekends)
Required Training (Upon Hire)
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Crisis De-escalation (CPI or equivalent)
  • Trauma‑Informed Care
  • Mandated Reporter Training
  • HIPAA / Confidentiality
  • DHS onboarding & orientation

Training assistance or reimbursement is available if not already certified.

Ongoing Training Requirement

All staff must complete two (2) in-service trainings annually, covering topics such as:

  • Child Safety
  • Youth Engagement Strategies
  • Executive Skills Coaching
  • Advanced De-escalation
