This is a full-time, benefits‑eligible position for an Industrial Painter at Chesapeake Shipbuilding.
About the JobThis role involves painting labor for the construction and maintenance of cruise ships and tug boats. The position is full‑time and includes comprehensive benefits eligibility from the first of the month following the start date.
Benefits- Competitive Pay – $21.00 to $25.50 per hour depending on experience

Shipyard Superintendent / On‑Site Foreman / Supervisor
Major Responsibilities- Safely and efficiently perform painting labor to complete construction associated with building cruise ships and tug boats.
- Demonstrate an aggressive work ethic with a focus on production.
- Listen, comprehend, and follow instructions.
- Conduct surface preparation: picking up trash and steel, vacuuming hull decks, cleaning hand and power tools, sandblasting, and solvent cleaning.
- Use professional coating applications.
- Apply primers (Zinc & Epoxy), intermediate coats (Epoxy, Urethanes), and finish coats (Acrylics, Urethanes, Anti‑Fouling).
- Maintain sandblasting and painting equipment (blast pots, hoses, nozzles, spray pumps, spray hoses, guns, tips, and air compressors).
- Always practice proper safety procedures.
- Follow instructions from foreman/supervisors and keep the job site clean.
- Perform any other duties as assigned based on operational needs.
Physical Requirements
- Use upper and lower extremities.
- Work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold.
- Crawl, kneel, crouch, climb, and bend around and under equipment; use ladders, stairs, scaffolds, and confined spaces.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
- Traverse uneven terrain, including loose pack gravel.
Normal visual acuity, understanding and following directions, normal hearing, and hand‑eye coordination.
HazardsWeather, fumes, moving mechanical parts, equipment, and vibration.
Pre‑Employment RequirementsDrug test and physical, including respirator clearance.
Salary Description$21.00 – $25.50 per hour.
