Reports To:
Facilities Supervisor / Leadman / On‑Site Foreman / Shipyard Superintendent
The duties and responsibilities of a journeyman laborer are all geared toward maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient construction site while supporting the overall project.
- Clean and prepare construction sites, vessels, and buildings.
- Load and unload furniture and material on vessels when assigned.
- Maintain a clear and clean facility.
- Assist skilled tradespeople of all departments and on‑site contractors as needed.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and implement construction plans.
- Prepare outdoor areas for various weather conditions (snow/debris removal, ice melt).
- Perform all other duties as assigned based on operational needs.
- Safe use of all tools and equipment.
- Work independently and with teams.
- 1+ years of experience with one or more of the following:
- Forklift and/or heavy machine experience in a construction environment.
- Basic carpentry skills.
- Steel construction experience.
- Skilled trades experience, e.g. HVAC, plumbing, welding, fabrication, carpentry.
- Valid driver’s license.
- All types of physical movement are required for this position to successfully perform the essential functions.
- Ability to use upper and lower extremities.
- Ability to work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain, including loose pack gravel.
- Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, climb, and bend around and under equipment, on ladders up to 24 ft at heights up to 70 ft, stairs, scaffolds, through small accesses, enter inside of tanks, and confined spaces, through hatches, and manholes throughout much of the work shift.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 75 lb.
- Able to work over bodies of water.
Normal level of visual acuity and hearing. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Hand‑eye coordination required.
HazardsWeather, fumes, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, equipment, and vibration.
Shift- This is a full‑time, non‑exempt, benefits‑eligible position.
