The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will meet basic requirements and hold a degree in the field of Otolaryngology that include the care of patients with conditions involving the head and neck to include the ear, nose and throat and related areas. This position works within the ENT section and its' otolaryngologists to provide clinic, hospital and emergency room care.
Administrative:
* Serves as staff clinician in the otolaryngology the section.
* Provides guidance and support to the nurse practitioners assigned to Surgical Service in their respective areas of expertise.
* Provides guidance for the medical students, PA students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to otolaryngology surgical Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to the standards outlined in Center Policy Memorandum, 11-4, "Supervision of Postgraduate Residents," when assigned to do so by the Section Chief of Otolaryngology. , Medicine Service.
* Participates in and attends medical center committees and/or teams as assigned by the Chief Surgical Service and in his/her absence.
* Participates in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by Section Chief of Otolaryngology.
* Demonstrates commitment to high quality customer service, including specific measures identified as performance goals by the Medical Center.
Clinical:
* Provides quality patient-centered patient care to both inpatients and outpatients for adults age 18-65 and older adults age 65+ as assigned by Section Chief, Otolaryngology Service.
* Maintains clinical privileges in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Surgery Services.
* Demonstrate sound decision making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
* Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management.
Academic: (Applies only to staff physicians with Wake Forest faculty appointments.)
* Participates in the formal education of the residents, fellows and medical students by presenting teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, etc.
* Participates in grading sessions for medical students and GME trainees assigned to their services.
* Demonstrates and trains medical students/resident, fellows in medical procedures that are required to provide optimal patient care appropriate to their expertise.
* Assists in the development and implementation of education and training programs for medical students and fellows and residents, rotating through Surgery Service and accountable Clinical Services.
* Meets scholarly activity requirements, including peer-reviewed publication, discover, and national professional organization participation
Supervisory Controls:
* Works without direct supervision, but is administratively and clinically responsible to the Section Chief, Surgery Otolaryngology Service.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or Supervisor Discretion
