Position: Civil Construction Co-Op (Spring 2026)

Founded in 1960 by Rudy Gerbus and his brother, Gerbus Bros Construction initially specialized in mass earth moving. In the 1970s, our expertise led us to partner with local power plants to address the environmental challenges of fly ash management. This collaboration gave birth to Trans Ash.

Position Description

We are looking for a few budding Civil Engineering Co-Ops! This is a paid position and will have you work onsite at a large civil construction project located in one of the following locations (temporary relocation assistance is provided):

  • Bucks, AL
  • Quinton, AL
  • Sherills Ford, NC
  • Semora, NC

The projects consist of mass excavation, large-scale civil improvements and landfill construction. This position will report to the Project Manager and will support Operations, Quality, Project Controls and Surveying Department needs on a daily basis. These responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Operations
    • Document management (RFIs, submittal review, redline drawings)
    • Production and cycle time management
    • Quantity tracking
    • Site reporting
  • Quality
    • Perform Quality Inspections
    • Document Quality reporting
    • Construction Drawing and Specification adherence and reviews
  • Project Controls
    • Cost reviews and tracking
    • Schedule management
    • Commodity reporting
  • Surveying
    • Perform basic GPS as-built surveying and grade verification
    • Basic quantitative analysis using computer software (Propeller) and/or GPS
Position Requirements
  • Co-op students must be seeking a degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of working outside in hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work outside.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, MVR, and background check.
  • May require significant time in the field, including walking up or down slopes.
  • Must be able to work in a construction environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
