Cost Accountant

Overview of the role

To provide accurate and timely cost information to support financial reporting, budgeting and decision-making. The role will focus on standard costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis and supporting operational stakeholders to improve cost visibility and control.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and continuously improve standard costs for materials, labour, and overheads in line with business processes
  • Perform variance analysis (e.g., material, labour, overheads) and provide clear commentary
  • Support month-end close with accurate cost journals, provisions and reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Ensure accurate recording of WIP movements, job closures, scrap and rework
  • Work with operations to understand cost drivers and support cost reduction initiatives
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for manufacturing costs
  • Ensure inventory is valued in accordance with accounting policies
  • Assist with audit queries relating to inventory and cost accounting
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen cost control, data quality, and reporting processes
  • Lead stock take review with external auditors
  • Prepare external cost reporting e.g. regulated pricing reporting (SSRO)
  • Support continuous improvement of finance processes and systems
Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing or cost accounting environment
  • Strong understanding of standard costing and inventory accounting, BOMS, WIP and stock flows
  • Good communication skills with ability to work with non-finance stakeholders
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills
  • Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
  • Power BI experience (desirable)
Work Schedule

This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week;
Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30.

Mandatory Health and Security Checks

Due to the nature of this business, you will be required to complete mandatory drug and alcohol testing (upon starting and randomly thereafter) and complete security to a BPSS (DBS and reference check) standard prior to starting in accordance with the Explosive Regulation Act 2014.
