Senior Accounts Assistant | Salisbury | £38k (c) | FT 39 hours per week

We're recruiting a Senior Accounts Assistant for an established Salisbury business, joining a small and friendly finance team where you'll have plenty of responsibility and the opportunity to broaden your accounting experience.

Sitting between the Accounts Assistant and Management Accountant, this is a great role for someone who already has strong transactional finance experience but now wants more ownership and greater exposure to month end and wider accounting activities.

You'll work closely with the Management Accountant, taking responsibility for key areas of the accounts function while helping ensure everything runs accurately and on time.

Your role is likely to include:

• Taking ownership of sales and purchase ledger activities
• Preparing and checking supplier payment runs
• Credit control and monitoring aged debt
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• Investigating and resolving account discrepancies
• Posting journals, accruals and prepayments
• Supporting VAT and other financial returns
• Preparing information and schedules for month end
• Assisting with elements of management accounts preparation
• Supporting the Management Accountant with reporting and analysis
• Helping maintain strong financial controls and accurate records
• Supporting the Accounts Assistant and sharing your knowledge when needed
• Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes

We're looking for someone who has built good all-round accounts experience and is now comfortable doing more than straightforward processing.

You might already be a Senior Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant or Finance Officer. Alternatively, you could be an experienced Accounts Assistant who has reached the point where you're ready for more responsibility.

You'll be confident with ledgers and reconciliations, understand how your work feeds into month end and, importantly, be someone who can spot when something doesn't look right and investigate it.

An AAT qualification or progress towards ACCA/CIMA would be welcomed, but we're equally interested in experienced candidates who have developed their accounting knowledge through practical, hands-on experience.

Experience with Sage or similar accounting systems would be useful, alongside good Excel skills.

You'll remain hands-on, but you'll also get closer to the month-end process and work alongside an experienced Management Accountant, giving you the opportunity to continue developing your technical accounting knowledge.

• Salary: Up to £38,000 depending on experience
