Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Dental Nurse for the Community Dental Service at Salisbury Central Health Clinic (Avon Approach, SP1 3SL
). Band 4, Full‑time, permanent, salary £28,392 – £31,157 per annum. Closing date 19/06/2026.
- Provide dental nursing support for urgent care and special care patients across Wiltshire and Swindon.
- Assist the dentist during all clinical procedures, including hand‑over, radiography, sedation and domiciliary visits.
- Maintain clinical and professional development, participate in annual appraisal and CPD to meet GDC requirements.
- Manage infection control, decontamination, stock and equipment, ensuring compliance with CDS and GWH Trust policies.
- Administer pre‑ and post‑operative advice, and liaise with other health professionals, care homes, schools and hospitals.
- Take responsibility for health & safety, fire inspection, manual handling and other health & safety duties.
- Operate the SFD IT system and record patient information.
- Act as chaperone and witness for the dentist and work as part of a team to deliver high‑quality care.
- Participate in audits, surveillance and additional duties as directed by the Dental Nurse Team Manager.
- Work flexible shift pattern including weekends and bank holidays, and travel to other clinics as required.
- Registration as a Dental Care Practitioner (DCP) with the General Dental Council.
- NEBDN National Certificate, NVQ level 3 in Oral Health (Dental Nursing) or equivalent qualification with appropriate experience.
- Willingness to study for the NEBDN Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing.
- Special Care Dental Nurse qualification (or equivalent). Understanding of clinical supervision/mentoring.
- Experience as a Dental Nurse working within a community dental setting.
- Experience of health‑and‑safety practice relevant to the post.
- Wide range of experience in dental procedures.
- Experience operating IT systems, including the SFD system.
- Valid GDC registration and ability to drive a motor vehicle with business insurance.
- Capability to work flexible hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
- Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with patients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Ability to handle manual‑handling tasks, including the use of a hoist.
- Commitment to maintaining professional development and compliance with mandatory training.
