Job Description & How to Apply Below
Do you believe that behaviour is communication?

Can you stay calm, curious and compassionate when things feel challenging?

We are looking for dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist education setting in Salisbury, supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and complex behaviours.

This is a role for someone who understands that progress isn’t just academic — it’s emotional, relational and personal.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma, anxiety or disrupted education
Support pupils to regulate emotions and behaviour, using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies
Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to create a safe, structured and nurturing environment
Provide consistent 1:1 or small-group support, helping pupils re-engage with learning
Celebrate small wins — from improved attendance to moments of self-control and confidence
We’re Looking For Someone Who:

Has experience (formal or informal) working with SEMH, behaviour, autism or additional needs
Is patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent
Can remain calm under pressure and reflect rather than react
Understands that challenging behaviour often has an unmet need behind it
Wants to make a genuine difference in young people’s lives

What We Offer:

A supportive, close-knit staff team who truly value learning support
Ongoing training in behaviour, SEMH and trauma-informed practice
A role where no two days are the same — and where your impact is real
