Robotics, Systems Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer, Software Engineer
Role: Robotics & Embedded Systems Engineer (Graduate–PhD)
Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire
Salary: Competitive + Significant Equity
You’ll join us onsite as one of the first six engineers, working directly with the founder to take us from deep‑tech start-up to global phenomenon within five years. This is a founding‑team role with real ownership, real responsibility, and real impact.
As our Robotics & Embedded Systems Engineer, you will design, integrate, code, and test the digital and electronic systems that power our autonomous VTOL aircraft.
You will effectively own the brain and nervous system of the vehicle — a highly complex robotic platform integrating multiple sensors, processors, and mission‑critical functions.
What We’re Really Looking For- We are not hiring for a qualification. We are hiring for capability, intelligence, and character.
- Whether you’re a standout graduate, MSc, or PhD, what matters is your practical experience, your thinking ability, and your drive.
• Experience from internships, personal projects, side builds, or research.
• Practical exposure to hardware and embedded systems.
• Understanding of data buses, drivers, and how to hook components together at a system level.
• Experience with sensors, processors, and embedded platforms (STM, Raspberry Pi, Nvidia).
• RF knowledge is a strong advantage.
• Comfort working close to the metal: debugging, wiring, integrating, testing.
First‑Principles Thinkers- We want engineers who can reason from fundamentals, not just follow patterns.
- People who can break down a problem, understand the physics, and build a solution from scratch.
- The “SAS of Engineering” Qualities
- We’re looking for grit, passion, and evidence of going above and beyond.
• Leadership or deep involvement in student engineering teams.
• Personal or home‑built projects (robotics, drones, electronics, vehicles, anything ambitious).
• Demonstrated resilience, curiosity, and a track record of pushing yourself.
• Drone‑related experience is a major bonus.
We want people who are hungry, driven, and excited by the idea of doing hard things.
- We’re looking for brilliant people — the kind who learn fast, think clearly, and solve problems others can’t.
- We reference universities like Imperial, Oxford, Cambridge, and Bristol not out of snobbery, but because they act as a pre‑selection signal.
- If you’re exceptional, we don’t care where you studied — but if you got into one of these places, it tells us something useful.
• Deep understanding of embedded software and electronic systems.
• Experience with STM, Raspberry Pi, Nvidia devices, sensors, and databases.
• Familiarity with ROS
2.
• Proven ability to design, integrate, and test robotic or embedded systems.
• Strong intuition, problem‑solving ability, and first‑principles reasoning.
• Team players who embody our values: passion, commitment, courage, integrity, trust.
• A fail‑fast, forward‑leaning mindset with a bias for action.
• Knowledge of OpenCV and end‑to‑end vision systems.
• Electrical engineering expertise.
• Familiarity with RF communications.
• Experience with commercial or open‑source UAV flight controllers and firmware.
What You’ll Get• Significant Equity — as a founding engineer, you will own a meaningful stake in the company’s future.
• Immediate Impact — shape the engineering culture from day one.
• Competitive Salary — initial stipend plus uplift after our Q1 2026 raise.
• Unlimited Paid Time Off — take what you need.
• Workplace Pension — automatic enrolment.
