About the role

As the IT Business Systems Manager, you will be responsible for the leadership, strategy and operational delivery of business-critical IT systems across the organisation.

Overseeing three core technical functions – Business Applications, IT Infrastructure and Dev Ops, you will ensure that systems are secure, resilient and aligned with business objectives within a regulated defence manufacturing environment. You’ll apply your expertise to drive digital transformation, process improvement, and system integration. You’ll also collaborate with technical teams, Cybersecurity, Service Delivery, and wider stakeholders to deliver secure and effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop core IT teams (Business Applications, Infrastructure, Dev Ops).

  • Define team objectives, drive performance and support capability and succession planning.

  • Oversee applications to ensure compliance, integration, effective upgrades, vendor management, and strategic alignment.

  • Manage application roadmap, upgrades, vendors and data consistency.

  • Partner with Service Delivery to ensure smooth operations and user satisfaction.

  • Own the lifecycle, performance, and optimisation of enterprise applications (e.g. PLM, MES, CRM, HR, Finance, M365, Power BI).

  • Enable Dev Ops, CI/CD, automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.

  • Align IT systems with cybersecurity standards and risk management requirements.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver IT solutions and drive transformation.

  • Ensure systems and processes comply with GDPR, UK defence sector regulations, export control and security requirements.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Understanding of IT infrastructure – cloud and on-premises, networking concepts, air-gapped environments.

  • Experience in a Dev Ops environment using CI/CD pipelines and tools from industry experience (Artifactory, Atlassian stack,…
