Job Description & How to Apply Below

Five Rivers Child Care is a leading social enterprise committed to Turning Children’s Lives Around. We are now seeking a dedicated and proactive Caretaker to support our Salisbury-based Residential, Education and Head Office sites, ensuring safe, secure, and well-maintained environments for the young people and staff who rely on them every day.

About the Role

As our Caretaker, you will play a vital part in maintaining the safety, appearance, and functionality of multiple sites across Salisbury and nearby locations. You’ll complete a range of small to medium maintenance tasks, support statutory compliance, and act as a trusted on-site presence for contractors and colleagues. This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same.

You’ll need a keen eye for detail, the ability to manage your workload effectively, and a commitment to creating clean, safe and supportive spaces where young people can thrive. The role is full time of 37.5 hours per week, 08:30am to 16:30pm although you may need to be flexible around opening of different sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out general maintenance tasks including painting, minor repairs, DIY, grounds maintenance, furniture assembly, and occasional tip runs.
  • Act as the first point of contact for contractors, ensuring all health & safety requirements are met and work is completed to a high standard.
  • Support the coordination of statutory compliance tasks across sites, including Head Office.
  • Manage and triage tasks via the online Teams helpdesk, providing updates and solutions where required.
  • Undertake routine site inspections, identifying and resolving maintenance issues.
  • Maintain site security, including unlocking/locking buildings and overseeing alarm systems where applicable.
  • Conduct health & safety checks such as fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and basic Legionella monitoring.
  • Assist in emergency situations such as power outages, alarm activations, or adverse weather responses.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is kept up to date, including inspection records, contractor information, and purchase orders.
About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Practical, resourceful, and confident in carrying out general maintenance tasks.
  • Well‑organised with the ability to manage a busy and reactive workload.
  • Customer‑focused and committed to providing excellent support to teams across the organisation.
  • A strong communicator who can build positive working relationships.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a wider facilities team.
  • Flexible, reliable, and motivated with a professional attitude.
  • Comfortable using IT systems including Microsoft Teams and Office 365.
  • Willing to travel between sites within approximately 20 miles of Salisbury.

Experience in caretaking, facilities, or key‑holding is preferred, but full training can be provided.

What We Offer
  • 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays
  • Blue Light Card
  • Simplyhealth medical cash back plan
  • Company Pension
  • Referral Bonus if you refer an employee or Foster Carer
  • Professional Supervision
  • The chance to contribute to our social mission by helping create safe environments for children and young people.
