Salary:
Competitive with Opportunities for Growth

We are recruiting for Autonomous Maintenance Advanced Team Members (ATMs) to join our manufacturing team at Nicholas & Harris, supporting the delivery of high-performing, reliable and efficient bakery operations through advanced machine operation, front-line asset care and continuous improvement. Finsbury Food Group is a leading speciality bakery manufacturer. We constantly raise quality and efficiency standards and build long-term relationships with major retailers and the food service channel.

Nicholas & Harris has over 180 years of heritage in craft baking methods. If you like artisanal, organic and speciality breads, or have special dietary preferences, our bakery in Salisbury has you covered! Working as part of our Operations team, you will play a critical role in maximising equipment performance, reliability and operational efficiency through ownership of machine standards, autonomous maintenance and operational excellence.

This is a highly skilled role focused on supporting consistent production performance while developing technical capability within a modern manufacturing environment. This role also includes the opportunity to complete a Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship in Asset Care, providing structured development to build your technical skills, operational knowledge and long‑term career potential within manufacturing.

This is what you’ll actually do!

As an ATM, you’ll be responsible for operating, monitoring and optimising designated manufacturing assets to achieve performance, quality and waste targets while maintaining exceptional standards of safety, compliance and operational discipline. You’ll take ownership of machine condition through autonomous maintenance activities including cleaning, inspection, lubrication, machine set‑up and first‑line fault finding, ensuring equipment is consistently operating to required standards. Working closely with Manufacturing, Engineering and Reliability teams, you’ll support effective issue resolution, asset improvement and performance optimisation across production.

You’ll play a key role in reducing downtime, improving OEE and driving continuous improvement through proactive problem solving, root‑cause analysis and the effective use of systems such as CMMS to record defects, breakdown trends and machine condition. You’ll also support changeovers, operational priorities and wider site performance objectives through disciplined execution and ownership. A major part of this role will be developing your technical capability through a Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship in Asset Care, giving you the opportunity to build recognised qualifications while contributing directly to the success of a high‑performing manufacturing operation.

Your success will be measured by your ability to consistently deliver high standards of machine performance, operational excellence, safety compliance and asset ownership, while supporting production efficiency and continuous improvement.

Ideally this is you!
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing, FMCG, engineering or automated production environment.
  • Strong mechanical or technical aptitude, with an interest in machinery, asset care or first‑line maintenance.
  • Motivated to develop through a Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship in Asset Care.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to identify issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast‑paced operational team.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to work cross‑functionally with Manufacturing, Engineering and Reliability.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • IT literate, with the ability to use digital systems such as CMMS or operational recording tools.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and proactive with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Flexible and willing to support the demands of a fast‑moving production environment.
What’s in it for you!
  • Competitive salary with future progression opportunities.
  • Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship in Asset Care.
  • Structured technical training and development.
  • Opportunity to develop within a highly skilled operational environment.
  • Enhanced Maternity & Paternity Leave.
  • Enhanced Pension Scheme.
  • Death in Service Benefit.
  • Free Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for you and your family.
  • Grocery Aid support.
  • Retail discounts via our Benefits Hub platform.
  • Refer a Friend Scheme (up to £300 per referral – T&C’s dependent).
  • Employee Recognition Awards.
  • Extensive Learning & Development opportunities.
  • Opportunity to build a long‑term career with one of the UK’s leading speciality bakery businesses.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
