Job Summary
The College of Science at the University of Utah is seeking a detail oriented accountant to work closely with college and departmental senior accounting personnel to maintain and reconcile department personnel accounts. This position has primary responsibility for payroll and accurate maintenance of personnel records and will also be involved with other accounting functions.
The College of Science is a leading academic division dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge through innovative research, rigorous education, and community engagement. It comprises eight academic units and several interdisciplinary programs that foster collaboration across scientific disciplines.
Responsibilities- Responsible for new hire onboarding, payroll initiation, and I-9 processing.
- Troubleshoots discrepancies and maintains accurate payroll records.
- Responsible for MyTime timecard sign-off, transfers, and setup.
- Verifies check advice and accurate/timely employee pay.
- Works closely with faculty and accounting to ensure correct grant effort, expenditures, and distribution transfers.
- Works closely with senior accounting personnel on other projects as requested.
- Prepares ad-hoc reports on an as-needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education).
- Thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of People Soft or Access databases may be preferred.
- Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
- Experience in university accounting.
Office environment, nearly continuously.
Physical RequirementsRequires sitting, hearing, listening, talking; occasional repetitive hand motion, typing, walking.
