Superintendent I – Mortenson
Overview
:
Mortenson is currently seeking a Superintendent I who will coordinate, plan, and supervise assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities in a specific discipline area. The role focuses on developing enhanced customer relationships through excellent service while managing project schedules, safety, quality, and compliance.
- Plan and implement project schedules, ensuring that all materials, equipment, inspections, and personnel support the timeline.
- Review construction and contract documents for completeness and constructability.
- Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers, resolving discrepancies.
- Develop and manage project schedules, including three‑ and six‑week look‑ahead plans.
- Create site logistics plans and lead the utilization of Mortenson tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with partner superintendents and project teams.
- Conduct on‑site orientations, pre‑construction planning sessions, and project site meetings.
- Supervise project partners, craft foremen, and crews; interview, hire, transfer, and dismiss craft team members as needed.
- Coach, mentor, and develop assistant superintendents and craft team members.
- Ensure proper task coding on timecards, track work progress, and maintain craft productivity.
- Provide training and facilitate career development discussions for craft team members.
- Build relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels, offering effective coaching and feedback.
- Manage safety, quality, risk, and compliance at high levels.
- Identify and mitigate unfavorable working conditions, continuously improving processes and procedures.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of construction management or related experience.
- Current driver’s license.
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Basic understanding of construction law and business practices.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
- Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies.
- Excellent listening and communication skills, open to diverse input and feedback.
- Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time.

Base pay range: $111,400 MIN – $167,100 MAX. Actual range is higher for Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (5%), Seattle, WA, Portland, OR (10%), and Washington, D.C. (12.5%).
Additional Notes- Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.
- Posts typically remain open a minimum of 5 days and an average of 44 days.
